Player Evaluations
The goal of the Lorne Park Hockey Association is to give ALL players the opportunity to receive a fair and equal evaluation and to place players at the appropriate level based on ability. We want to make the evaluation process work as effectively and fairly as possible.
It is important for every player to attend all of the evaluations scheduled for his or her age group. In order to assist the evaluations, players are requested to arrive on time and to wear an identifying jersey with their name clearly visible on the back. Players not attending a scheduled evaluation risk being placed on a team where they may not be competitive.
For each age group, Lorne Park has a designated a convenor who is responsible for coordinating the evaluation process.. Convenors will participate both behind the bench during the selection process and subsequently with the coaches to ensure that players and teams are appropriately placed. Please feel free to ask them questions at any time.
The coaches for each age group have been assigned an order for selection purposes. The first coach will select his team of 15 to 16 players, the second coach will then select the next team and so on The colour level (Red, White, Blue etc.) for each team will not be determined until the evaluations are completed. Coaches will be contacting the players they have selected within ten days after the last evaluation.
I would like to emphasize that the Lorne Park evaluations are only the first step in the MHL convening process as all players and teams are subject to further evaluations at the MHL level during the first six weeks of scheduled games. Team and individual player placements are only finalized at the conclusion of the MHL convening process which ends approximately November 15th. Every year each association has several changes made to their team and roster placements based on the assessment of the league convenors.
Evaluations and convening are an important part of what makes the MHL successful - making minor hockey a rewarding and memorable experience for all of those involved.
